Zugegebenerma\u00dfen spiegelt eine ausf\u00fchrliche Problemanalyse einen typisch deutschen Denkstil wider (wie du weiter unten erfahren wirst). Stimmt das auch mit deiner Art zu denken \u00fcberein? Wahrscheinlich ist das genau der Grund, warum ich die Studie \u00fcber Denk- und Diskussionsstile bei deutschen und US-amerikanischen Studierenden so wertvoll finde. Die Ergebnisse zeigen einige typische Themen auf, die auch in Gespr\u00e4chen mit meinen Klienten aufkommen. Insgesamt wurden die Interaktionen von 30 Diskussionsgruppen analysiert, darunter 15 US-amerikanische Teams mit 73 US-amerikanischen Studenten und 17 deutsche Teams mit 52 deutschen Studenten. Sie verwendeten in ihren Diskussionen h\u00e4ufig Wenn-dann-Klauseln, um ein tieferes Verst\u00e4ndnis des Problems zu erlangen. Ein Beispielsatz ist \u201eWenn er nur durchschnittlich war, w\u00fcrde ich ihm nicht raten, an die Universit\u00e4t X zu gehen\u201c<span style=\"font-size: small;\"><sub>2 (frei \u00fcbersetzt)<\/sub><\/span>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Im Allgemeinen neigten die deutschen Studierenden dazu, Klarheit zu bevorzugen und Unsicherheit zu minimieren. Das stimmt mit Beschreibungen des Unsicherheitsvermeidungs-Index \u00fcberein, auf dem Deutsche h\u00f6here Werte erreichen<span style=\"font-size: small;\"><sub>3<\/sub><\/span>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Amerikaner auf der anderen Seite vernachl\u00e4ssigten h\u00e4ufiger das Fehlen von Informationen und tendierten dazu, schnell m\u00f6gliche L\u00f6sungsaussagen zu pr\u00e4sentieren. Sie schienen weniger vor Unsicherheit zur\u00fcckzuschrecken. Therefore, we should never miss valuable opportunities for self-discovery as well as learning about others and validating other\u2019s strategies. How good are you at embracing cultural distinctions, even when they challenge you? Admittedly, this reflects a typical German thinking style (as you will learn below). Does this align with your thinking style as well? Probably, that is exactly why I find the study about thinking and discussion styles in German and U.S. American students highly valuable. The results pinpoint some typical topics my clients bring to me. In total, the interactions of 30 discussion teams, comprising 73 U.S. American students in 15 U.S. teams and 52 German students in 17 German teams, respectively, were analyzed. They frequently used if-then clauses in their discussion to gain a deeper understanding of the problem. For instance, a sentence like \u201cIf he was just average then I wouldn\u2019t advise him to go to University X\u201d<span style=\"font-size: small;\"><sub>2<\/sub><\/span> illustrates such a clause. In general, Germans tended to prefer clarity over uncertainty, which is in line with findings of \u00a0Germans scoring higher on what is known as the Uncertainty Avoidance Index<span style=\"font-size: small;\"><sub>3<\/sub><\/span>. Americans, on the other hand, more often neglected the absence of information leaned towards presenting potential solution statements. They appeared to be less afraid of uncertainty. Instead of saying \u201cThat\u2019s true, okay, that is a good point\u201d<span style=\"font-size: small;\"><sub>4<\/sub><\/span>, Germans more often said sentences that depicted the truth like \u201cNo, I don\u2019t think that would be enough for me\u201d in the student discussion groups.<\/p>[\/et_pb_text][\/et_pb_column][\/et_pb_row][et_pb_row _builder_version=\"4.22.1\" _module_preset=\"default\" background_color=\"#D6D6D6\" background_enable_image=\"off\" custom_margin=\"0px||40px||false|false\" custom_padding=\"20px|20px|20px|20px|false|false\" border_radii=\"on|4px|4px|4px|4px\" global_colors_info=\"{}\" theme_builder_area=\"post_content\"][et_pb_column type=\"4_4\" _builder_version=\"4.21.0\" _module_preset=\"default\" global_colors_info=\"{}\" theme_builder_area=\"post_content\"][et_pb_text admin_label=\"Text\" _builder_version=\"4.22.1\" text_font_size=\"18px\" text_line_height=\"1.6em\" ul_font_size=\"18px\" ul_line_height=\"1.6em\" header_2_line_height=\"1.3em\" background_size=\"initial\" background_position=\"top_left\" background_repeat=\"repeat\" inline_fonts=\"Cormorant\" global_colors_info=\"{}\" theme_builder_area=\"post_content\"]<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #5f8c62;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Finding 4:<\/span> Counteractive meeting behavior, such as verbalizing negative statements, was more common in German teams.<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>Is that a common prejudice that you have heard about Germans before? Counteractive behavior can be any communication that focuses on the negative, for example complaining, seeking someone to blame, trying to end the discussion early. German discussion teams in the study made expressions like \u201cThat\u2019s an unrealistic question anyway\u201d \u201cThis is way hard\u201d. Both findings, 3 and 4, mirror the significance of direct and clear communication as\u00a0 common in German teams and more socially accepted for individuals with a German cultural background.<\/p>[\/et_pb_text][\/et_pb_column][\/et_pb_row][et_pb_row _builder_version=\"4.21.0\" _module_preset=\"default\" custom_margin=\"0px||0px||false|false\" custom_padding=\"0px||30px||false|false\" global_colors_info=\"{}\" theme_builder_area=\"post_content\"][et_pb_column type=\"4_4\" _builder_version=\"4.21.0\" _module_preset=\"default\" global_colors_info=\"{}\" theme_builder_area=\"post_content\"][et_pb_text admin_label=\"Text\" _builder_version=\"4.22.1\" text_font_size=\"18px\" text_line_height=\"1.6em\" ul_font_size=\"18px\" ul_line_height=\"1.6em\" header_2_line_height=\"1.3em\" background_size=\"initial\" background_position=\"top_left\" background_repeat=\"repeat\" custom_padding=\"||0px|||\" inline_fonts=\"Cormorant\" global_colors_info=\"{}\" theme_builder_area=\"post_content\"]<blockquote>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #1f1f1f;\">Applying knowledge about our background to enhance resilience<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 18px;\">My psychological work involves reflecting risks to my client\u2019s well-being. Misunderstandings, problematic flows in meeting situation, being isolated with one\u2019s thinking style, and team conflicts definitely pose a high risk potential for expat\u2019s well-being and job performance. And while the results of the study are of course very prototypical and not universally applicable, they yet offer important implications. Investing in comprehensive training to raise the awareness and foster understanding of intercultural differences in teams, as well as improving reactions to differences, is crucial. The training should be tailored and country-specific to raise awareness of behavior and thought patterns associated with the most prevalent cultures in one\u2019s company. This knowledge will help us focus on cumulative advantages for the daily business operations.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">2) <span style=\"font-size: 18px; text-align: left;\">While global teams encourage diverse interaction, <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 18px; text-align: left;\">providing targeted training can reduce misunderstandings and unintended conflicts<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 18px; text-align: left;\">. For example, in German-U.S. American teams, balancing problem-focused and solution-focused approaches will need a well-defined plan. <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 18px; text-align: left;\">Likewise, differences in need for structure or emotional input, and social dynamics can cause conflicting feelings.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">3) <span style=\"font-size: 18px; text-align: left;\">To enhance alignment, it\u2019s essential to confirm shared goals and provide explicit validation to team members throughout the process. Additionally, the study authors encourage regular team reflections of meeting interaction. This in turn will help stabilizing our personal well-being and satisfaction.
